Black History Month Irony

Black History Month has always been important to me, not only because I am an African American but because growing up as a child in the 1970's the history books that we used in school did not portray black history. As I sit and flick through the television stations,  I see the actual coverage of the O.J. Simpson trial. I'm not here to argue this man's guilt or his innocence but it's ironic that during this one time of the year, this sad situation was being televised at this time.
The sadness that is protrayed during this specific time when we celebrate the "positive" achievements that this culture has contributed to this country was a tactical move. It seems as if it was strategically placed on t.v. in order to show a negative light of the African American race in order to highlight negativity and downplay the positive.   Again, this is not about the guilty or not guilty verdict it's about the timing of this particular show. The overall sadness is that as time goes by, the sensitivity of some people has been calloused and the level of decency has greatly declined.
